PHOTOGRAPHERS are being called to take part in a competition that will see 12 of the best images used in a Denbigh themed calendar for 2019.

The competition, organised by Denbigh in Bloom, a gardening volunteer group, intends to showcase the best of Denbigh’s flora and landscape through the calendar, whilst promoting community involvement and raising pride in the town.

Helena Cawthray, group leader for Denbigh in Bloom, said: “We’ve received a lot of positive feedback when the idea has been brought up.

“There are people in Denbigh but also those that have moved away whose hearts are still in the area that would appreciate having a Denbigh-based calendar.”

The gardening volunteer group has renovated a number of green spaces in Denbigh, having received £2,000 funding the North Wales Police and Community Trust and £1,500 from the National Gardening Scheme, which is supporting the group’s ongoing work at Denbigh roundabout and Temple Bar.

Ms Cawthray said: “We depend on funding to purchase flowers for the town as we are entirely volunteer-based.

As well as getting the community involved through the competition we’re looking to raise funds for the volunteer group. People that buy a calendar would be investing in Denbigh as we will use all proceeds to purchase new flowers – from gardening centres based in Denbigh – to be planted around the town.

“Denbigh has an awful lot going for it; greenery and flowers make the place beautiful and look like it’s cared for."

Images sent in to the competition's judging panel must reflect the theme, Denbigh in Bloom, and must taken within two miles of Denbigh town.

All entries will be judged by a panel of the group's volunteers.

The closing date is Friday 31st August 2018. The winners will be notified two weeks of the final judging.
