A LOCAL football club will be helping to make history this weekend.

Ruthin Town will host the Huws Gray Alliance Cup final at the Memorial Playing Fields this Saturday, May 5.

The final will be contested by Flint Town United and Gresford Athletic, with kick-off at 2.30pm.

Club secretary Bryn Jones said: “It’s great that we have been invited to host the final this year and it’s a credit to everyone at the club who have worked so hard with the ground improvements.

"This has been a real community project all the way through, from the contractors G Teeson, who have been tremendous, to all the sponsors like Jones Brothers and all the individuals who have donated money.

"It gives us a chance to celebrate and to show off the ground to a wider audience.”

S4C cameras are expected at the ground as the league makes history, with all four of the officials being women.

Referee Cheryl Foster will be joined by assistants Laura Griffiths and Sian Williams, while the fourth official will be Charley Smith.

This is the first time this has happened in Wales.

When asked about the cameras, Jones went on to say: “Yes, we are expecting S4C and we will be part of a historic moment.

"There is no doubt that the officials have been chosen on merit.

"Cheryl Foster is an excellent referee and she will be ably assisted by some very good assistants.

"We are entering a new modern era and it will be nice to say that the first time all four officials were women was at Ruthin Town.”
