ATTAINTMENT across the board.

That is what has been witnessed at Denbigh High School where teachers and pupils are celebrating a significant rise in the highest A*/A grades, part of an increase in attainment across the board, beating last year's record.

The top A level or equivalent grades are up by almost 10 per cent, with 32 per cent of students achieving an A* or A grade, compared to 23 per cent last year.

Meanwhile, 82 per cent of all grades achieved by students are A*-C, up from 77 per cent in 2017.

The school has reported that all students achieved two or more A level or equivalent grades, with 87 per cent of students achieving two or more A*-C grades.

That is a huge jump in comparison to last year’s figure of 54 per cent of students.

Amongst the stand out achievers are Morgan Wisby (1A*, 1A and 1B) and Thomas Roberts (3As).

Morgan is heading to Lancaster University to study engineering and Thomas will study biochemistry at Manchester University following a gap year.

Other students achieving the highest A* and A grades at A level or equivalent include Conor Allington, Anna Blake, Rhys Brown, Ffion Evans, Erin Gage, Matt Owen, Isabella Hardy, Georgia Parry, Ethan Harvey, Will Riley, Steffan Jones and David Lawson Cooke.

Chair of governors Kate Sutherland said: “I am delighted with the performance of our A Level students.

"Their hard work and dedication, along with the support of their teachers, staff, parents, carers and families, has well and truly paid off.

"I wish them all the very best in their chosen future plans.”

Assistant headteacher Andy Skeoch added: “I am extremely proud of all of the students and the results they have achieved.

"They have shown how their dedication and hard work over the past two years has culminated in these excellent results.

"It was fantastic to see such happy faces.

“The majority of students are going to their first-choice university, which is brilliant.

"The next step in their education is going to set them up for an exciting journey and we wish them every success along the way.”

The AS level results are also exceptional this year. Holly Roberts and Joseph Fishwick each achieved four A grades, and other high achievers include Rob Blythin, Jessica Briody Hughes, Harry Edwards, Kala Gowing, Theo Halton, Isobel Lloyd, Amy Martin, Katie Rowlands and Kyle Williams.
