KEN Skates AM, the Welsh Secretary for Economy and Transport, visited the Llangollen Railway's new station at Corwen last Friday.
The new station is currently under construction and is planned to open in 2019. The railway currently terminates at a temporary platform at Dwyrain Corwen East.
Mr Skates said: "Completion of Corwen Central station will be a high boost to the Railway and the town opening great opportunities for more visitors in 2019."
Liz McGuinness Chairman Llangollen Railway Trust said: “The opening of the new terminus in 2019 will complete a 40 year old dream of reconnecting Llangollen with Corwen through the Dee Valley by rail.
“The 10 mile heritage railway will provide easy of access to the area of outstanding natural beauty long side the River Dee with the three intermediate stations at Carrog, Glyndyfrdwy and Berwyn.
“We anticipate more visitors will be attracted to the Corwen end of the line from a new segment of the tourist market in North West Wales. This will alter our traffic flow so it will become two way, rather than the mainly one way from Llangollen as it is at the moment, and will boost passenger numbers to improve the travel options and the viability of the railway."
