DENBIGHSHIRE has chosen to extend its contract with a waste management and recycling company until 2021.

During a meeting of Denbighshire County Council's Cabinet, future operating arrangements for the local authority's three household recycling centres - Ruthin, Denbigh and Rhyl - were discussed.

The council agreed to extend its contract with CAD Recycling and to explore joint working opportunities with other authorities across North Wales.

In April 2009, the council entered into a seven year contact with CAD Recycling. Due to the strong performance of the contractor, the existing contract was extended until March 2019.

Cllr Brian Jones, cabinet lead member for Highways, Planning and Sustainable Travel, said: “We are pleased to be extending our contract with CAD Recycling. They are a Denbighshire based company and have a proven track record of delivering a quality service at our recycling centres. They also provide opportunities for young people through apprenticeships, as well as assisting the Council in its efforts to improve the environment through encouraging recycling.

"We will now work to ensure that residents in Denbighshire can continue to receive the best possible services at these sites, whilst we turn our efforts to looking at the long term and plan a service that is fit for the future”.

The cost of the contract extension for two years is £3,293,995 - more than £3million.

A spokesperson from Denbighshire County Council said: "Officers have been given the go-ahead to award a two year contract extension to CAD subject to agreement of a number of terms."
