A COMMUNITY leader whose work has received recognition from royalty has been made redundant.

Gerry Frobisher, a town councillor for Meliden, will leave his role as the volunteering and wellbeing development officer -youth lead with the Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council (DVSC) after 18 years of service on Friday, October 19.

Mr Frobisher said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the DVSC. Working with so many young people and watching them achieve their volunteering goals has been something I will never forget."

Helen Wilkinson, chief executive of the DVSC has explained the decision as the result of a digital reorganisation within the DVSC.

Ms Wilkinson said: "The Millennium Volunteers programme is being phased out at the end of the year with a revised digital offer by Third Sector Support Wales.

"The way we deliver our activities in relation to youth volunteering in DVSC has been reorganised.

"Gerry has worked with DVSC for almost twenty years and has an impressive record in supporting and promoting youth volunteering in the county - DVSC remains grateful to him for his commitment and long service."

Mr Frobisher's work has earned him at spot on the guestlist at three Buckingham Palace garden parties and a meeting with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge William and Kate.

Mr Frobisher was also invited to Charles the Prince of Wales' 70th birthday celebrations in May this year and has met the Prince - who presented him with MBE in 2007 - and the Duchess of Cornwall Camilla on three more occasions.
