THERE was a real family affair for the Blues in their latest spot of action.

After an intense build-up to the game, Ruthin 2nds secured a win against a strong Bethesda 2nds side following a loss at Caernarfon the previous weekend.

Adding to the interest in the game, Ruthin 2nds had two separate father and sons playing within the starting XV.

These were Andy and Dillon Edwards, and Gareth and Brynach Edwards.

The game started with Bethesda on top with some aggressive running at the Ruthin defence.

Generally, the Ruthin defence held strong, although Bethesda managed to kick a penalty to take an early lead.

Once Ruthin settled into the game, they played some good rugby.

Bethesda's high penalty count resulted in a yellow card and with a man advantage, the Ruthin pack dominated upfront leading to a try for man of the match Richard Williams.

Complacency started setting in for Ruthin in the second half and Bethesda capitalised on a mistake to score a try.

The penalties continued to mount up against Bethesda and another sin binning followed.

This allowed Ruthin to mount even more pressure and after some swift handling in the backs, Ben Green flew into the corner for an excellent try.

Bethesda kicked a penalty to go 11-10 ahead, however Jordan Oldbury kicked a winning penalty for Ruthin to seal a 13-11 scoreline.
