A POPULAR butcher shop in Bangor which closed earlier in the year is set to re-open under new management.

G Williams and Son, also known as "Johnny Six" to locals, had been trading in the city for almost 150 years before closing its doors in July.

Liquidators arrived at the shop during that month to tell staff that they were being made redundant.

However, the shop is now set to re-open under the management of one of the business' former apprentices - 23-year-old Ashley Thomas.

"I started out as an apprentice in the shop five years ago and I was there when it closed," he said.

"My plan for the future with the shop will be to extend our home delivery service much further than we did previously."

G Williams and Son's grand re-opening is set to take place on December 1.

Since making the announcement of its return, the business has received hundreds of messages of support on social media from its former customers who are excited to see it making a comeback to the High Street.

One user wrote: "This news has come at the perfect time, as many people in the city will be buying their Christmas turkeys from there."
