A WORLD War 1 exhibition called ‘The War to End All Wars?’ is on display at the Powysland Museum in Welshpool.

A WWI themed exhibition has been on display at the museum every year since 2014, when it was the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War. The exhibitions have explored various aspects of World War I including: the men of Montgomeryshire in 2014, War Propaganda in 2015, The Trenches in 2016 and The Home Front in 2017.

This year is the final exhibition in the series, and it has two parts. The first focuses on the Armistice, the soldiers who returned home, the wounded and those that gave their lives for their county and for what was expected to be an ever-lasting peace. It also takes a critical look at the costs if the war and the future it created, which certainly did not include world peace for long.

The second centres on objects and collections borrowed from local people which display hidden stories about local men and women who took part in or were affected by WWI.

The exhibition is on display now until Saturday, December 22.

Eva Bredsdorff, the museum curator, said: “I hope you will find the exhibition of interest.”
