ONE of Anglesey's lifeboat station with a notable history for bravery among its crew is looking for new members.

Moelfre Life Boat station is having a recruitment drive and looking for people to volunteer to join its renown team in a variety of shore and sea roles.

It is holding a Recruitment Day at the station, from 10am - 4pm, on Sunday, November 18.

The original Moelfre lifeboat station was originally formed by the Anglesey County Association and the first lifeboat arrived in1854, built by the RNLI and local associations.

Over the years, Moelfre crews have been awarded 37 medals for gallantry, including two gold medals to a former coxswain Richard Evans - who is honoured in a statue by the station for his outstanding bravery.

However, according to station LPO Phil Williams not everyone has to be a daring hero, the lifeboat team is looking for all types of people, of any age and background, for all kinds of support roles.

"We would love to hear from anyone interested in joining us at the Moelfre station," he said.

"We have many voluntary roles which are all important, from being helpers in the shop and visitor centre, to being a guide during station open days, to helping before and after launches, right through to actual launch and lifeboat crew.

"We can provide all training required and you don't need any special qualifications, for most roles, there is something for everyone of any age and background."

Only actual lifeboat crew require a fitness medical and there is an age limit of 60. Crew members need to be able to get to the station within 10 minutes of a call out.

The station is currently recruiting for a lifeboat operations manager, deputy launch authority, lifeboat and launch crew, as well as for the shop and visitor centre.

Mr Williams added: "It is great way for people to learn a new skills and get experience, you will receive training and support, as well as meeting new people.

"It is also very rewarding to know you have contributed to helping save lives at sea."
