Members of the public have been urged to be on the look out for would be fly-tippers.

The call from Cllr Martyn Holland came after a load of carpets were dumped in the heart of the Clwydian Range’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Llanferres in Denbighshire last week.

Llanarmon/Landegla county councillor, Martyn Holland, has appealed to the public to get in touch with the authorities if they see fly-tipping.

Cllr Holland said the latest incident in his ward happened on Thursday evening after a large white van was seen leaving the gateway where the items, including rolls of carpet and off-cuts were dumped.

He said: “Sadly fly tipping has been going on for years and has increased over the last few years because there are people who are happy to make a quick buck by offering to take peoples rubbish away and then fly tipping in our countryside. There is strong evidence that when the rubbish is examined much of it is coming from neighbouring counties. Most of the individuals who collect this type of rubbish are not licensed to carry or dispose of waste and residents should not use unlicensed waste collectors.

“This type of fly tipping is not only a blot on the landscape but can also have a environmental impact. It costs the county council a considerable amount of money to clean up and remove these items, money that could be better spent on important services such as care for the elderly or education.”

“I am grateful to the local press for highlighting these incidents because in the past responses from the papers readers have led to a number of prosecutions for fly tipping.”

The number of incidents of fly-tipping have been on the rise in Denbighshire for the last two years.

In 2017/18 the number of incidents in the county was 1,207 up from 1,004 the previous year.

A spokesman for the council said: “The incident has been reported to us and we are in the process of removing the items. Residents can report instances of fly-tipping via the Denbighshire County Council website.”
