DECORATIONS made from old sheet music hit the right note in a Christmas tree competition in Ruthin.
The competition was held in St Peter’s church, and the winners from more than a dozen entries were two members of the church’s choir.
The two ladies, who won the first prize, were long-term parishioners Elaine Oldroyd and Carolyn Baines.
Ms Oldroyd said: “The Vicar of St Peters, Rev Stuart Evans, suggested we have a Christmas tree decoration competition. We publicised this throughout the town, inviting businesses and various organisations to take part. We had more than a dozen entries in the competition, and they were a splendid ensemble of trees.
“Lots of people were invited to come to a Light for Life service and were charged £1 to vote in the competition, the £400 this raised was donated to St Kentigern’s Hospice in St Asaph.”
Ms Oldroyd, who has been in the church’s choir since 1974, added: “We had a lot of old sheet music lying around which was never going to be used again, and Carolyn and I had the idea to cut it up and make it into decorations for the tree. This appealed to a lot of people and our tree was voted winner.
“I suppose we must have struck the right chord with our little composition of sheets.”
