THE next stage in the construction of a wind farm near Ruthin is set to begin in January.

The delivery of 27 wind turbines to be stationed in Clocaenog Forest will start from Monday, January 7 and could take up to five months.

The foundation pours have already been completed by Innogy, the German energy company responsible for the construction project for the 96 megawatt wind farm, which is hoped to generate enough renewable electricity to meet energy needs of about 63,800 UK homes.

The wind farm will also provide a community investment fund worth up to £768,000 per annum throughout the lifetime of the project.

The turbine deliveries will depart from Ellesmere Port at 9.30am on a Monday-Friday weekly schedule aiming to avoid rush hour traffic, and could take until June, subject to the availability of police escorts and prevailing traffic conditions.

Andy Clayton, Innogy construction project manager, said: “The commencement of theses deliveries marks a really exciting period for the Clocaenog Forest Wind Farm. We’ve now completed all 27 turbine foundation pours and are ready on site to begin receiving the turbine components, as the project makes a significant stride towards generating clean renewable energy.

“I would encourage those who wish to be kept up-to-date with the delivery schedule to sign up to our text messaging service.”

A consultation period for the Clocaenog Forest Wind Farm Community Fund which asked residents for their input on how it should be administered has now closed. The consultation included a survey about topics such as the potential area of benefit and what sort of projects would best benefit from funding, and held two drop-in sessions in Denbigh and Cerrigydrudion.

Innogy said the consultation received a high level of engagement and they are currently in the process of analysing the results of the feedback.
