Myfanwy Jones, librarian, who started as an assistant in 1978, said: "There is five of us at working at the library. When we first opened, it was mainly just books. The internet has made a big change.

"We help a lot of people with IT, do a lot of printing and help people download books in our virtual library."

As part of the celebration, a memory board is being created.

Myfanwy added: "We want people to write down their memories. We had one mother who said how her son used to come in every day for a story. I remember him, he is 40 now. We want to hear about why people come here and books they've read over.

"In terms of my memories, I have got so many. Conversations with staff, discussions, happy customers we remember. It is just a lovely job and so varied. You never know where it is going to take you.

"The library is part of the community. We invite different groups and we work with the schools. Quilters meet at the library weekly and there is a Welsh learners group."

On January 10, visitors can join Diane Woodraw in an informal creative writing session to put together a poem/flash fiction to celebrate the library at 50.

There will also be a display by Penrhos quilters; An chance to browse through Emyr Morris’s local history archive; View ‘Last Abergele mart fair and sale day’ photo album and an opportunity to learn about how the Fair Trade steering group operates.
