PUPILS at a school are getting the best learning opportunities, a chief officer has said.

The Foundation Phase provision of a Flintshire primary school has recently been recognised as good practice by Gwe (School Effectiveness and Improvement Service for North Wales).

Ysgol Gronant is federated with Ysgol Trelogan in the Point of Ayr Federation and all staff work collaboratively to provide learning experiences that are engaging and challenging for the young learners.

Mrs Watson, Foundation Phase teacher, has developed an area which engages and challenges pupils aged between three and seven.

Dawn Bayliss, headteacher, said: “Every member of staff is fully committed to embedding the Foundation Phase pedagogy. The passion they have for our children has resulted in our learning environment being engaging and vibrant.

The children are encouraged to be independent learners and thrive due to the opportunities they are given. All of our children achieved their Foundation Phase indicator in mathematical development and personal and social development last year.

“Mrs Watson has embraced the introduction of new technologies and has created her own green screen areas and Seesaw sound booths for children to record and self-assess their achievements independently. She is now working with Ysgol Trelogan to share the good practice that she has developed.”
