A motorcyclist taking part in a race in Wales died after losing control of his 600cc machine and being run over by two other competitors when he was thrown off, an inquest heard today(TUE).

Craig Bell, 30, of Bishop Auckland, an acoustic engineer, was flown from the Anglesey circuit to a major trauma centre at Stoke on Trent where he died the following day last June.

A conclusion of accidental death was recorded at Caernarfon. Dewi Pritchard Jones, senior coroner for North West Wales, said: "When one looks at motorcycle racing there’s no such thing as a 100 per cent safe race.”

Mr Bell was an experienced rider but died after a “very slight error of judgement” while taking a right-hand bend. He went over the handlebars and the bike went into the air and came down on top of him.

A race marshal, Helen Smith, said another motorcyclist went over the lower body. Then a further bike hit his upper body.

The coroner said Mr Bell’s injures were “horrendous”.
