A POPULAR tourist destination in Denbighshire has been nominated for a prestigious award.

The Berwyn Hills have been shortlisted for the 'Best Holiday Destination' prize in BBC Countryfile's magazine awards.

The hills are an isolated and sparsely populated area of moorland roughly bounded by Llangollen in the northeast, Corwen in the northwest, Bala in the southwest, and Oswestry in the southeast.

Its main summits are Cadair Berwyn, Moel Sych and Cadair Bronwen. The summit lies on the border between Powys and Denbighshire, and is the highest point in the latter.

In Autumn 2018, BBC Countryfile asked residents across the UK to nominate locations for their awards. These were eventually whittle down to a shortlist by an expert panel of judges.

Berwyn Hills features alongside just four other locations in the 'Best Holiday Destination' category. Last year's winner was the Pembrokeshire Coast.
