A NORTH WALES cycle route has been named one of the top spots for biking fans this winter.

The UK is braced for an icy blast of winter weather, with temperatures set to plunge in the coming days. But according to electric e-bikes retailer 50cycles.com, cycling fans can still get their fix of two-wheeled adventure by trying all-season, sheltered bike routes.

A list of top routes compiled by Scott Snaith, cycling expert and owner of 50cycles.com, includes Coed Llandegla.

Mr Snaith said: “You might be tempted to let the poor weather stop you in your tracks, but you’d be missing out on some great winter riding.

“These routes are all either sheltered and protected from the elements, quick-drying, indoors - or close to some great pubs and cafes in case your extremities get too cold and they need warming by the fire.

“What’s really great about winter riding is that you’ll often have the trails to yourselves as many other families will opt to stay put indoors centre set in the middle of an enormous - and well sheltered - pine forest.

“Routes range from three to 14 miles in length, with the dense tree covering keeping the worst of the elements off you.

“Key highlights include sweeping views over the Clwydian Range, a jawdropping forest reservoir, and – for those who like challenging gravity – plenty of table jumps. Then refuel in the stupendous cafe, wellknown for their home-made cakes.”

His other list entries include the Monsal Trail in Derbyshire, Two Tunnels Greenway in Somerset, the National Cycling Centre in Manchester and North York Moors in North Yorkshire.
