THE Urdd Eisteddfod isn't the only major 2020 event to be a feature of the Vale of Clwyd.

As well as the Eisteddfod, which will be held in Denbigh at the end of May, Clwyd has been announced as the feature county for the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society in 2020.

The popular Royal Welsh Show will take place between July 20 and 23, 2020.

Each year, the Royal Welsh Show has a different host or feature county.

This has its origins in the early history of the show, when its location changed year-on-year, moving around the 13 old counties in Wales.

Since the move to the Royal Welsh Show's permanent home at Llanelwedd in 1964, the 13 counties in Wales have taken it in turn to be the feature county.

In their allotted year, the feature county appoints the president and lady ambassador for the show, and takes part in the many events during the three shows during the year.

As well as the main summer show, there's also a smallholding and countryside festival in May, plus the winter fair.

Over the course of their year, the feature county also takes particular responsibility for fundraising and organising a variety of events in order to raise funds to support the development of Llanelwedd and promote the society, its work and all of the shows and events.

The Clwyd 2020 committee has started its fundraising drive, hosting a recent race night at Ruthin Rugby Club.

The committee also organised a 60s, 70s and 80s night in Brynford.

"We haven’t got a target as such, and there are lots of activities in the pipeline," said 2020 ambassador elect Lowri Williams.

"We will hopefully have our website up and running before the end of the week."

Over the years, some of the society’s most notable improvements have been raised by the hard-working committees in the feature county.

This includes Entrance A, the iconic building on the roundabout that was supported by Gwent in 2001, while Caernarfon raised funds to enable the works on the main ring.
