A DISTINGUISHED opera quartet and a men's choir that reached the final of Britain's Got Talent will perform at a St Asaph concert aiming to raise funds to improve cancer treatment at Glan Clwyd Hospital this month.

The North Wales Cancer Appeal (NWCA) will stage the concert at St Asaph Cathedral with the esteemed London Opera Quartet and Only Boys Aloud.

The event will raise funds for the NWCA, which has donated in more than £800,000 for equipment such as a blood testing machine, radiotherapy equipment, a CT Scanner and an ambulance for Glan Clwyd Hospital's Cancer Treatment Centre.

The London Opera Quartet's 'Baubles and Warbles', a group of four young classically trained opera singers who met at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, includes 33-year-old Lowri Hazzard, from Henllan. Due to the Denbighshire connection the group has performed at Henllan Church a number of times for the Cancer Appeal but has decided to hold this year's event at the cathedral to increase the audience capacity.

Meanwhile, Only Boys Aloud is made up of 200 boys attending 14 choirs across Wales and led by experienced professional choral leaders. At its heart the scheme aims to make a difference to young men in Wales and help raise aspiration levels, self-esteem and confidence.

Carol Pritchard Jones, vice chairman of NWCA, said: "The London Opera Group and Only Boys Aloud are joining together in this wonderful venue. The North Wales Cancer Appeal is thrilled to welcome these talented young singers."

The charity is regularly fundraising with the annual Denbigh 'Uptown vs Downtown' football match and has six runners attending this year's London Marathon.

Ms Jones added: "The evening promises to be filled with great music, fun and laughter."

The concert will take place on Friday, February 15.

Tickets cost £10-£15.

Doors Open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
