AN INVESTIGATION into how 20 tonnes of hay bales caught fire in a barn near Denbigh is underway.

Four North Wales Fire and Rescue Service (NWFRS) crews were called to the scene of the blaze in Trefnant on Saturday, February 2.

The crews, from Denbigh, Abergele, Rhyl and Prestatyn were assisted by the farmer and barn-owner to put out the fire.

On Monday, the NWFRS said the cause of the fire remains unknown. A spokesperson said: “The fire is thought to have affected around 20 x one ton straw and hay bales.

“Crews set up a portable pump to tackle the fire and worked with the farmer to turn over the straw affected by fire in the barn.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
