TIME is fast running out for people to get their views in on a Welsh Government consultation about draft statutory guidance to school governing bodies on school uniform and appearance policies.

The Welsh Government is seeking views on a number of proposals for school government bodies including:

  • That school governing bodies have regard to affordability when setting their school uniform and appearance policy.
  • That school governing bodies have regard to access and availability of uniform items when setting their school uniform and appearance policy.
  • That schools’ uniform policies should not dictate different items of clothing on the basis of sex or gender.
  • That schools’ uniform policies have a flexible approach to uniform items when accounting for extreme weather conditions.

The consultation closes on February 21 and Vale of Clwyd MP Chris Ruane MP is urging anyone with a view to submit their comments to the review.

“Over recent years there has been a number of issues in relation to changes to school uniforms and the overall cost,” he said.

“This is an opportunity for parents, governors and indeed those involved in uniform sales to add their comments to the consultation.”
