A LARGE fire on the same Llantysilio hillside that burnt for 30 days last summer has been confirmed as a 'controlled fire' by the fire service.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service tweeted this afternoon that they were aware of the plume of smoke caused by the fire and sent an officer to investigate.
The tweet read: "We are aware of the smoke plume in the #Llantysilio area and an officer will be investigating. Avoid repeat calls please. Thanks for your assistance.”
Exclusive images taken for the Leader just after 3pm show the fire and smoke on the hillside.
A spokesperson from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service has since said: “Obviously it is attracting a lot of attention because of the great fire that happened there last year but we can confirm that the scene has been investigated and it has been deemed as a controlled fire by a local farmer.
“An officer did go out to investigate the incident but no crews were sent out to deal with it.”
Firefighters spent 30 days on the mountainside in July last year after initially being called to a grass fire.
