VOLUNTEERS completed the last of three planned tree planting sessions in a Flintshire town.

North Wales Wildlife Trust (NWWT), partners and volunteers have been planting trees in several locations across Mold in recent weeks.

The latest planting day, part of the ‘Wild About Mold’ project, was at Kendrick's Field on Thursday.

Previous sites - Gas Lane and Park Avenue - were among locations picked by residents as part of a consultation run by Mold Town Council last year.

Friday's work saw volunteers from a number of organisations and local groups turn out to help, including Mold WI, Mold Gardening Club, Cittaslow, CAIS, and NWWT - as well as local residents.

Amy Green, Wild About Mold project officer, said: "It's really nice to see all of these trees making an immediate impact in the centre of Mold, especially at Kendrick's Field.

"It really complements the wildflower turf we laid in December. That will be flowering in the spring."

Cllr Andrea Mearns, who has been supporting the scheme, told the Leader: "Kendrick's Field was a joy to plant - Gas Lane was quite challenging.

"It was a really nice day and a number of residents and people using field came to us. "They said they were pleased and they thought would make a difference, which was very good."

Cllr Mearns added new trees will also be planted at the town's cemetery in the future.

The planting ties into Flintshire's recently published tree plan, which aims to boost the urban canopy cover across the county.
