A TRIO of potential opponents will welcome Mark Webster to the first PDC major of the year.

This year's Ladbrokes UK Open will be held this weekend and the venue for the oche action between March 1 and 3 in the Butlin's Minehead Resort.

Denbigh dartist Webster will join the unique 159-player tournament at the third round stage on St David's Day.

In the third round, Webster will face either Simon Stevenson, Adrian Gray or Ian McFarlane.

The world's top 32 - including defending champion Gary Anderson, world champion Michael van Gerwen and former UK Open champions Raymond van Barneveld, James Wade, Adrian Lewis and Peter Wright - come into the event in Friday evening's fourth round.

Webster warmed up for the UK Open by competing in a busy weekend in Barnsley.

Friday was marked by a pair of European Tour qualifiers.

Looking to qualify for the European Darts Open, Webster's run was ended by a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Wayne Jones.

Earlier, Mark had defeated Michael Barnard 6-2.

In the qualifier for the German Darts Championship, Webster's run was ended by a 6-5 loss to Stu Wilson.

Despite hitting a 96.5 average, Webster was unable to make progress in Saturday's Players' Championship tournament.

Mark lost out 6-3 in a high-quality clash versus Robert Thornton.

Turning to Sunday's Players' Championship tournament and Webster began the day in good fashion courtesy of a 6-3 first round triumph over Martin Schindler.

Mark's run came to an end during the second round stage with a 6-1 loss to Dirk van Duijvenbode.
