THOUSANDS have braved an oncoming storm for a pair of races.

Despite Storm Freya threatening the island, runners turned up in droves to the Menai Suspension bridge to tackle the Jones Crisps Anglesey Half Marathon and 10K on Sunday morning.

Moving downhill through Menai Bridge town centre and along the winding closed roads to Beaumaris, runners then looped back past views of the Snowdonia National Park and the Menai Straits to the finish line in the centre of Menai Bridge.

One runner, Patrick Glover of Llandudno, said: "It was a fantastic event. The course was amazing both from a racing point of view and the scenery was beautiful.

"Hats off to the Aim High guys, they've been able to put together an excellent half marathon."
