Ysgol Llanbedr, a Church in Wales Voluntary Controlled primary school, has appointed a new manager to take charge of its highly successful and recently extended childcare facility, Munchkins, which offers a flexible, full day-care service.

Becky Smith is a highly experienced childcare professional having previously worked as a teaching assistant, childminder and as an assessor for a local further education college.

Since taking up her role, Miss Smith has been planning a new baby and toddler group.

Mini Munchkins will start next Wednesday afternoon (March 20) from 1.30pm until 3pm, and every Wednesday thereafter. Everyone is welcome to attend the free sessions, and refreshments will be available for parents and little ones.

Miss Smith said: “I am excited to be looking after Munchkins and we hope the new baby and toddler group will prove equally popular. We will be offering lots of outdoor fun too including forest school, and once a month we’ll have a messy play session.

“We have a very special setting where children have a safe and secure environment in which to play and learn. The facilities and equipment we have here are fantastic and the extended covered play area outside provides lots of outdoor learning opportunities where children are able to explore and engage in creative play.

“With the introduction of Mini Munchkins, children can come here from a very young age, progress through to nursery at the school and continue right through to age eleven.”

Munchkins is located to the rear of the school and enjoys the spectacular surroundings of the Clwydian Range. It provides a year-round, full day care service from 7.45 in the morning until 6.00 in the evening and offers breakfast and after school clubs, looking after children from the age of two to eleven.

There is also a ‘Rising Threes’ group for children who have turned three and are waiting to start nursery at the school in the next academic year.

Sue Van Loock, headteacher, is delighted with the continued success of Munchkins. She said: “As a school we are very proud to be able to provide such a high quality childcare service that offers a seamless transition to the school.

“Becky brings a wealth of expertise and experience to the role and, together with a highly trained staff, will ensure that Munchkins continues to thrive and develop. I look forward to welcoming more children from the local area and beyond.”

Munchkins is registered with the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) and recently received a glowing inspection report. Childcare Vouchers are accepted. For more information or to arrange a visit, please call 07724 671343 or 01824 702927.
