THE Dwyfor Meirionnydd MP Liz Saville Roberts has been appointed as a Privy Counsellor.
She is the first woman to represent Plaid Cymru in the Westminster Parliament.
She has represented the Gwynedd seat since May 2015, and in 2017 became the party’s Westminster leader.
Membership of the Privy Council mainly comprises of senior politicians, who are current or former members of either the House of Commons or the House of Lords. Privy Counsellors are given priority when being called to speak in the House of Commons.
Liz Saville Roberts MP said: "I accept this in the knowledge that it recognises the success and hard work of the Plaid Cymru team in Westminster.’
"As we mark International Women’s Day, I’m pleased to be the first woman elected representative for Plaid Cymru to be appointed to the Privy Council, joining my Plaid Cymru colleagues Elfyn Llwyd and Dafydd Wigley.’
"Plaid Cymru currently has no elected representatives with Privy Council membership; this appointment will better assist me in speaking up for Wales and scrutinise the executive."
