HYBU Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) has been working alongside leading Welsh foodservice providers in their bid to win new customers in the domestic UK market.

Several Welsh food companies are great supporters of PGI Welsh Lamb and PGI Welsh Beef, using locally-produced meat in fresh, pre-prepared and value-added ranges which they sell to a wide variety of clients in the restaurant, hotel and catering sectors.

As part of its intensification of work in the domestic market in the face of trade uncertainties around Brexit, HCC was present at trade shows in Llandudno and Colwyn Bay recently where potential catering customers could sample food companies’ lamb and beef offerings.

HCC’s UK market development executive Emily Davies said: “The UK foodservice sector is worth £57 billion a year, which is a vital domestic market for Welsh lamb and Welsh beef.

"Within this, we have a number of excellent companies who are committed to sourcing red meat from Wales.”

She added: “These trade shows were part of a drive by HCC to support these firms to attract new clients, by preparing samples of the excellent product that’s on offer, and tell the story of the outstanding product traceability and the traditional farming methods that underpin the brand.”
