A TRAMPOLINE club that helps disabled people enjoy the sensation of flying through the air before landing softly on a springy surface has received a much-needed donation from a nearby shop.

The Flying High Rebound Therapy Trampoline Club provides opportunities for children and adults diagnosed with visual impairment, physical disability such as cerebral palsy and learning difficulties including ASD and ADHD to enjoy the mental and physical health benefits of trampolining while making new friends.

The Denbigh Leisure Centre club, which has been run by volunteers for 10 years but had its funding cut by Denbighshire County Council in 2016, is aiming to buy a brand-new disability hoist to match its newly acquired trampoline so that more of its members can take part.

The volunteers have now received a £250 cheque from the Co-op Community Fund after Penrhyn Bay store employee Pete Thompson’s eight-year-old son, Max, benefitted from attending the club which is “making a difference to people’s lives”.

Mr Thompson said: “It is fantastic to be able to present Flying High with this cheque courtesy of the Co-op local community fund. The fund is aimed at helping small organisations who deliver a great service to people in our local communities remain active and make a difference to people’s lives.

“Flying High certainly ticks all these boxes and it gives me great pleasure to be able to help support such a worthy cause.”

Laurel Morgan, Flying High head coach, won the Coach of the Year at the Denbighshire Sports Awards 2018 for the club’s effort.

She said: “This amazing donation will help us to buy a new hoist worth about £4,000 and we have nearly raised the amount needed.

“Max quickly exhibited his enthusiasm for the activity and in his time at the club has learned the basic skills relating to safety on the trampoline through fun games, gradually improving his mastery of skills to the extent that he is now learning the precursory skills for somersaulting.

“It is a voluntary club and it’s people like Max that make the club worth running.”

To join the club for £3.50 per session, or volunteer, visit Denbigh Leisure Centre on Monday between 5pm-7pm.
