THE owner of a leading Welsh independent food wholesaler and the chef de cuisine of a top restaurant in London will attend a fundraising lunch at Ruthin Farmers’ Auction this spring.

The Sunday lunch will be served by expert Adrian Martin, master chef at Simpsons in the Strand, one of London's oldest restaurants situated in the Savoy Buildings, Covent Garden. It serves roast meat on silver-domed trolleys, to be carved at table in an oak-panelled dining room dated 1828.

The Auction will also be visited by Brian Jones, owner of Castell Howell Foods, as special guest speaker.

The fundraising event is organised by the Clwyd 2020 Denbighshire & Conwy committee as part of Clwyd's selection as feature county for the Royal Welsh Show 2020.

The Welsh lamb served at the lunch will be donated by Henllan-based Daphne’s Original Welsh Lamb. The menu will also include Ruthin-based Patchwork Pate as a starter. Other sponsors of the lunch are merchants Corwen Farmers providing all fresh vegetables.

The Sunday lunch is the finale of a full weekend of activities including a Noson Lawen with Cor Meibion Llangwm on the Friday as well as soloist performances. On Saturday, there will be a Country Fair with food stalls, cookery demonstrations, craft stalls and children’s activities, a tractor run, dog show, speed sheers. Popular Ruthin DJ dj Mic ar y Meic will be performing at the Saturday disco and at the Sunday morning car boot sale.

Gwyn Edwards, Clwyd 2020 Denbighshire & Conwy Chair, said: “I’m really looking forward to the Sunday lunch – it’s a perfect way to finish a great weekend at the Auction. We have two great guests joining us and it’s not very often you get a successful Welsh businessman and a top London chef at your Sunday lunch.

“The Clwyd 2020 team have worked really hard to organise this weekend and I hope people will come and support us. This is just one of many events that are happening across the county to raise money for the RWAS in the lead up to our year as Feature County in 2020.

“The Sunday lunch will be a feast of local produce, great atmosphere and you’ll be supporting Clwyd 2020. What better way to spend your Bank Holiday Sunday!”
