THE talented Ravens have flown away with their first win of the season.

Ravens U-15s, based in Ruthin, secured their first win of the season with a dramatic last second try to beat a strong Meirionnydd team at Bala.

The Ravens withstood a strong start by Meirionnydd to open the scoring.

Jess Kneale made a break down the left wing before feeding Kim Thurlow, who drove over in the corner for the opening score.

Meirionnydd struck back with a drive down their right to score in the corner, however the Ravens then scored a fine individual try.

Alaw Pritchard made a break from inside her own half and she had the speed to outpace the defence for a score under the posts, which Kim Thurlow then converted.

This was followed by a great team try from the Ravens, with Siwan Davies rounding the home defence to score, while Kim Thurlow added the conversion.

Meirionnydd came back strongly towards half-time to score two tries of their own, leaving the Ravens narrowly ahead 19-17 at half-time.

After withstanding a strong start to the second half by Meirionnydd, Alaw Pritchard scored her second try for the Ravens, converted by Kim Thurlow.

With five minutes left, the Ravens appeared out of sight with a 29-17 lead.

However, Meirionnydd used their bench to bring on fresh legs and two converted tries saw them move into a two point lead.

The Ravens had a try disallowed after this, but from the last play of the game, Emily Owen went over for a dramatic winning score.
