THE winner of a signed football shirt, part of a competition to help raise funds for a local football club hit by flooding, has been announced.

16-year-old Jake Davies from Llangollen is the lucky recipient of the shirt signed by Corwen-born Wales international Harry Wilson.

The winger donated the item to help raise money for Corwen Juniors FC, who had suffered £6,500 of damage to their facilities following floods in March.

Jake’s dad Robert, who is a postman working in the Corwen area, says he bid on the shirt to show his appreciation for what the club has done for the children of the area.

"We are so pleased to win the bid for the shirt, but the main reason we have supported Corwen Juniors is due to the amazing work they do in changing children's lives," he said.

"People have been so kind to our family over the years, so it is lovely to give something back."

Corwen Juniors’ Ian Evans added that the club had been "blown away" by the response to the shirt - with bids eventually coming in from up and down the country.

“From everyone connected to our club we would like to thank Jake and his lovely family for their generosity and support with this auction," he said.
