Firefighters have battled three large grass fires during one of the hottest weeks of the year so far.

Crews from Llanfair Caereinion, Newtown and Llanidloes were called to a 120-acre hill fire above Adfa on Saturday afternoon (April 10). Smouldering grassland could be seen as far away as the Kerry Ridgeway.

One Llanfair Caereinion firefighter said that crews had spent all day at the incident and noted that the hill side was “very dry at the moment” which would allow the fire to spread quickly.

On Monday, April 15, firefighters from Llanfair Caereinion were deployed to a hill fire in the Foel area. They were joined by a crew from Llanfyllin who brought a rescue pump (fire engine) and a Land Rover to help tackle the blaze.

Firefighters were called out yet again to a hill fire near Foel area on the following evening on Tuesday, April 16. Crews from Welshpool were sent to assist firefighters from Llanfair Caereinion with the incident.

The cause of the fires are unknown.
