EXPERT and up-and-coming foresters cut through huge wooden logs while handling revved up chainsaws near Ruthin.
Coleg Cambria Llysfasi (CCL) hosted the UK Loggers competition and training day on Saturday, April 6 which was attended by current world champions who demonstrated and shared their expertise.
The event included 11 students who took part in a series of challenges including tree felling, combined cuts, limbing, fitting a new chain and precision cuts.
The event was part of a series by UK Loggers aimed at attracting more people to the industry.
The winner on the day was Mark Edwards after he earned the highest overall score in the categories.
Richard Siddons, UK Loggers spokesperson, said: "Well done to Mark for an excellent performance, and thanks to all the judges, helpers and competitors for making it a great competition on a lovely spring day."
Andy White, lead forestry lecturer for CCL, added: “It was great for us to host this competition and a brilliant opportunity for aspiring chainsaw and forestry students to learn from national champions here on the day.
"The skills demonstrated by the competitors at all levels were incredible.”
