A FISHERY is offering free fishing lessons to children in a bid to get them away from their games consoles this spring and summer.

Llandegla Fishery will provide youngsters with the chance to be taught by trained coaches at one of its five fish-filled pools.

The offer is open to under 16s and is planned to take place every other Saturday at the site near Coed Llandegla Forest starting April 27.

Depending on its popularity, fishery owner Simon Harrison could make it a weekly event in the long-term.

Mr Harrison said: “One of my big aims is to work on getting kids into fishing. I’ve been passionate about fishing for most of my life since I was about 10 years old.

“We’ve got coaches involved who are looking to give their time to get kids interested and stop them playing on the PlayStation.

“We want to get them out into the fresh air."

Children will also be allowed to keep any fish they catch free-of-charge.

Mr Harrison added: “People are looking to get back to the outdoors. Things will probably turn full circle at some point.

"We might be lucky to see it in my lifetime.”
