FIREFIGHTERS from two stations are celebrating after raising huge amounts at charity car washers.

Bolton Central and Agecroft stations placed second and third in this year’s Regional Car Wash Championships, which raises cash for The Fire Fighters Charity.

Bolton Central Community Fire Station raised £2,043.99 and Agecroft raised £1,670.33 through car wash events running from the beginning of March.

In total, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service raised £14,307 - the most in the country - nearly doubling the fundraising efforts from last year where they raised £8,877.70.

GMFRS Fire Fighter’s Charity Service Coordinator, Lewis Jeffery said: “A special thanks to all station watches, volunteers and cadets for supporting The Fire Fighter’s Charity car wash, the amount raised wouldn’t be possible without your enthusiasm and support.

“The money raised will continue to provide that support mechanism and rehabilitation service for current and retired fire service personnel across the UK.”

Stations across Greater Manchester also raised money for firefighter Rick Casey who is continuing his battle with a rare form of cancer. Over £25,000 has been donated by colleagues, friends and members of the public to support Mr Casey.
