Andy Chatfield, course co-ordinator for the four Journalism degrees at Falmouth University, said: “The Falitzers is our annual celebration of the very best student work on our Journalism degrees and a chance to say thanks to the Cornish media partners, who do so much to support our programme.

"It has been a great year for us, with many of our third years already lined up for great jobs in the news media here and in Europe.

"It’s always a bitter-sweet night – lots of laughs and collegiate fun, but also an emotional farewell to the students who will be graduating shortly.

"I’m very proud of all of them.

"The Falmouth Hotel staff were again terrific hosts.”

The guests on the night handed out the awards.

They were Milo Perrin, editor of Cornish Stuff; Chris Cowley, assistant editor of Metro; Rachel Stevenson, a freelance investigative journalist; Natalie Roberts, a health and fitness blogger who runs Happy Healthy Nat and a Falmouth graduate, Tom Howe, sports editor at The Voice and deputy sports editor of the Sunday Independent, also a Falmouth graduate, and Steve Smith, editor of the Packet.
