A HEROIN addict who broke into a listed Anglesey church and stole cash donations and two bottles of sherry was jailed for 18 weeks.
Steven Richards Edmunds, aged 37, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to burglary in March at St Cybi’s Church, Holyhead.
Magistrates at Llandudno heard intruders had targeted the church on other occasions, too.
Prosecutor James Neary said Edmunds was caught by a fingerprint on a sheet of paper.
No more than £20 was inside the donation box.
But a leaded window would cost £1,500 to repair.
Defence solicitor Alex Fitzgerald said Edmunds was “extremely remorseful.”
Until 2014 he had been trouble-free but then he became a drug addict.
Edmunds had no money and committed the offence out of desperation.
The court chairwoman told him the offence was so serious only custody would suffice.
He must pay a £115 surcharge.
