TALENTED Dee Valley footballers went close to claiming a national title recently.

Ysgol Dinas Bran, in Llangollen, recently made it through to the Welsh Schools' U-13s cup final.

The final took place at Park Hall Stadium, the home of The New Saints, and Dinas Bran came up against Corpus Christi High School, from Cardiff.

There was a tight first half and it was goalless at the interval.

It remained close until Corpus Christi took the lead courtesy of a goal with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

Ysgol Dinas Bran had to push forward in their efforts to grab an equaliser, but their opponents grabbed two late goals to seal a 3-0 win.

Despite the defeat, it was a tremendous feat for the Dinas Bran team to reach the final.

A total of 240 began the competition and there were thrilling moments during Dinas Bran's cup run.

They defeated Llanidloes 5-0 in the last-four, while Dinas Bran edged out Friars School 12-11 on penalties in the quarter-finals.
