A WOMAN from Holywell ended up being arrested after she tried to help another woman in the toilets of a Chester pub, a court heard.

Naomi Lindsey Jones, 40, had been on a night out at the Liverpool Arms when she discovered a fellow pub-goer in distress on May 4.

But as she was trying to help the woman’s partner came into the toilets and assaulted her, she claims.

Police were called and Jones became increasingly agitated as she felt no-one was listening to her account of what happened, Chester Magistrates Court heard.

Officers then arrested her for using threatening and abusive behaviour and hauled her off to the police station.

She kicked out at a window in the police car and later smeared blood on the walls of her prison cell.

Jones pleaded guilty to the public order offence and to causing criminal damage and was ordered to pay the police £44.30 in compensation to cover the cell cleaning costs.

Richard Sibeon, defending, told the court Jones’ version of events and said the alleged assault on her was still under investigation.

“She had gone into the ladies’ toilets and there was a lady in distress,” he said.

“She wanted to help this lady but then the lady’s partner came in and assaulted her.

"She was punched to the head.”

Jones then sought the help of pub staff who called the police.

“In her drunken agitated state she thought nobody was listening to her,” Mr Sibeon said.

“She accepts her behaviour and deeply regrets the incident.”

District Judge Nicholas Sanders handed her a conditional discharge meaning there will be no further action as long as she stays out of trouble for a year.

Jones, of Strand Crescent, must also pay £85 court costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

She had no previous convictions.
