MORE success has been secured by the Denbigh & District Amateur Boxing Club.

Recently, Wrexham Maelor Amateur Boxing Club hosted an excellently run annual boxing show at the Miner’s Institute in Oswestry.

Each of the 15 scheduled bouts featured a Wrexham Maelor boxer, matched against amateur boxers from clubs in Denbigh, Llandudno, Llay, Llangefni, Stockbridge, Blacon, Wrexham, West Wirral, JCS Boxing, Croxteth and Birmingham’s 2nd City.

Jac Hughes, aged 15, boxing for Denbigh & District Amateur Boxing Club, was matched with Wrexham Maelor’s Kyle Roberts, also aged 15.

Both boxers, previously unboxed and well matched, showed great skill, willpower and focus in their first outing - and they got off to a dynamic start.

The duo fought hard through the three rounds, showing great fitness, skill and fortitude.

Kyle was a tough opponent right up to the final bell.

The judges awarded a deserved win to Jac Hughes on a split decision. Both boxers provided an excellent display of amateur boxing.

Trainers Nathan Hanika and Peter Mackie were extremely proud of Jac and the excellent skills he showcased in his first ever contest.

Mackie said: “This is the second of two recent wins for the club and there are many more to come.

"We are very proud of Jac and excited for the future of the club.”

Denbigh & District Amateur Boxing club trains at Myddelton College every Monday and Wednesday from 6.45pm.
