THE ANNUAL Pontblyddyn Duck Race took place yesterday and was attended by many in the village in aid of Christ Church Pontblyddyn, the historical church of the village.

The event, which took place at the Pontblyddyn Cricket Club, played host to eight rubber duck races, along with face painting, giant Jenga, children's fancy dress, a raffle and a few other stalls.

Johanna Kaufmann, Head Organiser of the event spoke to The Leader about how significant the event has become to the local community over the years.

“The duck race is an event which has taken place every single year for around about ten years or so now, maybe even longer than that.

“It’s a very popular event for people in the community and for some outside the community as well. There is a couple here from Oundle, they come every year.

“So, we’ve got a few stalls here today, it’s a very old-fashioned event, nothing too flashy, and really quite nice.

“This year though we’ve had a lot more for children to do, we’ve got welly wanging, we’ve also got stuff for the adults like throw a coin at a bottle of whisky to try and win it so that’s great as well, and we’ve also got a raffle for a chance to win some great prizes as well.

“Everybody in the village has donated and although it is a tiny village and we don’t have a lot, we’re really grateful for everything that people have given.

“It’s great to have these kind of community events on, it has been organised and run by the church, but it is, at heart, a community event and a community day.

“Obviously it can be very weather dependent but lots of people still come even when the weather isn’t at its best.

“It’s really just a lovely little family day, it’s quite low-key but it’s wonderful.”
