A HAIR salon in Wrexham has proved to be at the cutting edge when it comes to charity fundraising.

Halo Hair Studio in Gresford were offering free hair cuts on Wednesday, to anyone wishing to donate at least seven inches of their own hair to the Little Princess Trust.

Co-owner Lowri Staunton said the charity, which uses donated hair to make wigs for children and young people who have lost their own hair while being treated for cancer and other conditions, was one close to her heart, and was "overwhelmed" that 14 women/girls sat in the chair to take part.

"Leonie Lewis (business partner) and I decided to hold a fundraising event at the salon and we had the aim of donating 100 inches of hair.

"However, we had 14 women and girls who wanted to make donations, with the longest piece of hair being 18 inches, so we had a total of 274 inches. We are overwhelmed with everyone's support and so grateful for everyone for making the day a huge success."

The amount of hair donated equates to just under seven metres and nearly 23 feet, which is bordering on Rapunzel-esq and the salon also managed to raise approximately £500 for the charity as well.

Lowri added: "It costs The Little Princess Trust £550 pound to provide a wig free of charge, which is why they rely on donations of hair to help towards the making of them; so to be able to send this much hair is truly amazing.

"We raised money by having a raffle and the women taking part also had sponsors, with the youngest being just seven years old, which we thought was such a brave thing to do.

"Leonie and I went to a lot of effort putting the event on at the salon and are so pleased with the turnout and the money raised. I'd also like to say thank you to our stylists Emily Gallagher and Gemma Owen, who also helped by giving out free haircuts."

Michaela Jade Lunt, 30, and her daughter Xenya, 10, took part in the event and she revealed how how happy they both were to support such an amazing cause.

She said: "We were so happy to donate our hair and both love our new shorter hair! The girls at the salon all did amazing and so so much hair to donate!

"The ladies all did an amazing job yesterday, so well done to them for putting on such a lovely event."

Since its launch in 2006, The Little Princess Trust has provided over 7,500 real hair wigs to sick children and young people, up to 24 years of age across the UK and Ireland and awarded millions of pounds of grants to hand-selected cancer research projects.
