PREPARATIONS for the 41st North Yorkshire County Show are well underway with racing pigs more than 600 sheep,150 cattle, many horses and a range of entertainment set to draw the crowds.

Up to 10,000 people are expected at the Camp Hill Estate at Kirklington, near Bedale where the event is being held on Saturday June 16. Secretary Alan Andrew said they have been overwhelmed by the interest and enthusiasm of show entrants and traders.

"We do have a long history, while it is the 41st North Yorkshire County Show it was previously the Northallerton Show which goes back to the 1840's so we have a great tradition of staging agricultural country shows.

"This year we have a fabulous line up of sheep, cattle and seven rings of horses with showjumping and carriage driving. And we have a really good line up in the main ring from the Little Imp Motorcycle riders who were amazing last year to a new attraction, Joseph’s Racing Pigs.

"We also have a Hound Parade, best dressed heavy horse and riding judging and in the afternoon there is the grand parade including class winners, classic cars and vintage tractors.

"There are a very few trade stands left for anyone who would like to be involved. It is a really traditional country show with something of interest for everyone."

As well as the larger animals there is also a poultry, rabbit and cavy show and for the first time the event is staging a farrier shoeing competition with farriers racing to put on the best displays. Craft and junior marquees will be exhibiting photography, art, flower arranging, and many handicrafts by people of all ages.

Mr Andrew added: "Food and drink of all kinds can be found in the catering area and there is a fun fair and other similar attractions. We have many trade stands where you can buy anything from a car, agricultural machinery or just a packet of sweets, you can even seek professional help. We really do try and cater for everyone."

Parking is free and payments can be made on the gate by bank card, the show starts at 8.30am and organisers recommend that anyone travelling to the event follow signs to the show at Camp Hill and do not use sat navs for the last mile because of problems experienced in the past.
