A HEALTH BOARD has launched a consultation to develop a plan to improve its care for people living with dementia in North Wales.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) wants to build a regional plan for its dementia services, which will look at how health and social care services across North Wales can work together to provide better care.

The plan is being developed by BCUHB’s Regional Partnership Board and the six county councils in North Wales, alongside people living with dementia, carers and organisations who provide care and support.

It aims to achieve the Welsh Government’s six priorities for dementia care, including risk reduction and delaying onset; raising awareness and understanding of dementia; recognition and identification; assessment and diagnosis; living as well as possible, for as long as possible with the condition; and the need for increased support.

Lesley Singleton, director of partnerships in BCUHB’s mental health and learning disabilities division, said: “We recognise that the best people to shape effective services are the people who use them.

"We see the future as one in which those who are diagnosed with dementia and those who support them can feel confident that not only will they experience compassionate, safe and professional care but that they have, as a right, real opportunities to shape and be more involved in that care.

The consultation closes on Friday, July 26.
