A LIVERPOOL fan from Wrexham has found his own obscure way of making sure he is in attendance for the Champions League final in Madrid.

Simon Wilson, a YouTube star with over 250,000 subscribers, has opted not to fly to the Spanish capital, instead shilling out £40 for a car to get him to the game between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow.

The 27-year-old made his name by uploading several videos of him sneaking into various events without a ticket, including the Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather fight in Las Vegas and the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

Speaking to The Leader, he has said that he does indeed have a ticket for this event and explained why he’s decided to take the route he has.

“I’m a season ticket holder with Liverpool Football Club, and I was fortunate enough to have been successful in getting myself a ticket for the game in Madrid.

“However, when I saw the price of flights, they were at least £800 no matter where you flew from. I even looked at flying from Scotland to see if that would make it any cheaper, but it wasn’t.

“So instead me and my friends decided why not just buy the cheapest car we could find and drive ourselves to the game?

“I am making videos of my journey to Madrid but to be honest this wasn’t a YouTube based decision. It was a case of how I could get to this massive game the cheapest way possible.

“My brother was looking around on Facebook and he spotted a £40 car for sale and we knew that was how we would do it. So, we bought the car and we’re on our way.

“We realised that it was actually cheaper to buy the car, get ourselves insured on it, and pay for fuel all the way down, then it was to book flights and accommodation over the weekend so why not?”

Originally from Wrexham but now residing in Manchester, Mr Wilson purchased a Skoda Favorit GLXI and is travelling with his brother Ben Wilson, as well as his friends Richard Jennings and Mark West.

The four of them started their long journey from Anfield Stadium on Wednesday, May 29, travelling to Dover, where they missed their ferry to Calais due to traffic.

Mr Wilson said that fortunately they were able to get on the next ferry a short while later and have had no other delays to the trip.

He went on to explain that there was no plan before the crew set off, they just jumped in the car and were on their way.

“I’m the kind of guy who really just wings everything he does, there was no plan whatsoever.

“We stopped in places like Bordeaux and Bilbao, but we didn’t even book any hotels on the way over, we actually slept in the car last night the four of us which wasn’t too bad.

“To be honest, we’ve been mainly worried about various sounds the car has been making most of the way down, but it’s managed to pull through so far.

“We’ve passed time pretty well on the way down, Richard is a Spurs fan, so we’ve been chatting about the game and everything, and just been filming bits and having a good laugh.

“We’ve met some people who are doing the same sort of thing, people travelling in vans and stuff, but I don’t think anyone has quite gone to the level that we have with a £40 car.”
