A NEW forest trail has opened in Mid Wales, providing walkers with a great opportunity to explore the great outdoors.

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) and the Crychan Forest Association worked together to extend and improve an old trail in Crychan forest, near Llandovery.

The new two-and-a-half-mile-long “Cefn Farm” trail takes walkers on a loop through bluebell woods and past the ruins of Glyn Moch farm.

Previously only a horse riding trail, a new footbridge now means that walkers can also access a beautiful part of the Crychan Forest all year round, without getting their feet wet.

Brian Hanwell, Natural Resources Wales local area manager, said: “Constructing the footbridge was a great team effort by our civil engineers and area staff, and we’ve been delighted with the enthusiasm shown by members of the Crychan Forest Association in helping to bring this about.

“We hope many people will get out into the forest, walk this new trail and get healthy, enjoying nature’s gym!”

Chris Laing, chair of the Crychan Forest Association said:

“The Crychan Forest Association were happy to collaborate with Natural Resources Wales by purchasing the materials used in the construction of a footbridge over the Afon Crychan.

“Our members walked this for the first time last Thursday and everyone was delighted with the trail.”
