NORTH Wales Jazz is organising a top quality evening of entertainment at a North Wales venue next week.

Presenting timeless standards and scintillating originals, jazz French horn master Jim Rattigan will be appearing at Mold's Theatr Clwyd on Tuesday, June 11, leading his acclaimed 12-piece ensemble 'Pavillon'.

The innovative, all-star line-up for this North Wales Jazz presentation features some of the most exciting and in-demand instrumentalists in the UK.

The ensemble contains Martin Speake, Andy Panayi and Mick Foster (saxophones); Percy Pursglove, Steve Fishwick and Robbie Robson (trumpets); Mark Nightingale and Sarah Williams (trombones), plus Hans Koller (piano), Dave Whitford (bass) and Martin France (drums).

Jim Rattigan has performed all over the world at the highest level with Michael Brecker's Quindectet, the McCoy Tyner Big Band, the Charlie Haden / Carla Bley Liberation Music Orchestra, the Creative Jazz Orchestra with Kenny Wheeler, Django Bates' Delightful Precipice, Brad Mehldau, the Guy Barker Big Band and the Simon Purcell Octet.

He has also toured and recorded with the Mike Gibbs band and the Hans Koller band, together with Steve Swallow and Bill Frisell, the Julian Arguelles Ensemble, Mark Lockheart’s Scratch Band and the London Sinfonietta.

Also in great demand outside of the jazz world, he has worked with many well-known artists, including Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Barry Manilow, Paul McCartney, Burt Bacharach, Joss Stone, Rick Astley, George Michael, Pulp, Damon Albarn, Adele and Paloma Faith.

He has toured with Tony Bennett and Nigel Kennedy’s group, recorded with the folk singer June Tabor and performed with blues singer Michael O’Callaghan.

As well as composing for both film and television, Jim's French horn can be heard on the soundtracks to numerous blockbuster movies, including The Lord of The Rings, several James Bond films, Batman, The Bourne Ultimatum, Moulin Rouge, Shrek, Florence and many more.

This North Wales Jazz presentation commences at 8pm and admission is £15 for adults and £5 for under 18s.
