MORE than 60 tractors gathered on Sunday to raise money for charity.

This year's Vale of Clwyd Tractor Run was the largest since it began a decade ago. 66 tractor owners, including farmers and enthusiasts, gathered at Denbigh Rugby Club from 9.30am-10.30am to exhibit their trusty vehicles.

They then rode along the 25-mile route around the vale, which is useful for dairy farming and growing crops, from Denbigh through Henllan, Groes, Nantglyn.

They stopped for a half-way break at the Clocaenog wind farm site, where they were given a talk by Huw Jones, director of Jones Bros Civil Engineering, the Ruthin construction firm.

The tractors then crossed Cyffylliog and Prion, returning to Denbigh by 3pm.

The event raised more than £1,800 for St Kentigern Hospice and Welsh Air Ambulance.

Llandyrnog county councillor Merfyn Parry, who co-organised the event, drove a Massey Ferguson 65, purchased brand-new by his father Tom from a creamery in Bodfari in the 1960s. It was then passed on to Cllr Parry in the 1970s.

He said: “The tractor run went really well this year, it had the biggest attendance since we started 11 years ago with tractors visiting from across North Wales.

“We all own tractors and it is a good community event. Members of the public came to see the tractors at the rugby club, and it is a chance for farmers, and people who always wanted to be farmers who now own a vintage tractor, to get together.

“Thanks to the organisers and Denbigh Rotary Club who helped marshal the run.”

The next tractor exhibition in Denbighshire will be held at the Denbigh & Flint Show in August.
